Everyone is catching their breath from yesterdays storm.  It was a case of “Instant Winter.”

Just last Sunday I was letting Reno “mow” what was left of the lawn on the south side of the house.

Yesterday morning we awoke to this.  It snowed all day, and most of us ended up with about 14 inches.

35 mph winds made for blizzard conditions.  That’s not what will make it memorable though……

I woke up about 4:30 and the furnace wasn’t starting.  Went out with a flashlite and could see the furnace intake was filled with snow.  Called Brian at 5:00 to see if he would help me go up on the roof in the dark, in the middle of a blizzard.  His wife, Carol called back about half hour later, Brian couldn’t even get out of his driveway!  About then the power went out.  So there I was, middle of the worst storm in 10 years, no heat and no power.  Eventually everything got fixed and I went out in the afternoon and plowed till almost dark.

To bring you up to date from the last dispatch……

Last October Brian and I did the Kickapoo Valley Reserve Triathlon.  I made my goal of finishing, and not coming in last.  Got Landon on Reno a couple of times and both Mom and Landon helped get things ready for winter.  Cleaned up the garden, got Reno’s “house” ready and also stocked her “pantry” for winter.

Been working on firewood with Brian.  This pile is waiting to be split, note some of the wood “pizzas” I cut are as big around as the skidsteer tires ( 32” ).  Even the 2’ pieces are so heavy we use the loader to lift them onto the wood splitter.  In this pic you can see the pile of split wood behind me is growing.

Thinking about a snow blower for my tractor…….
