I was thinking about retiring this page, but based on all the hits it receives I guess someone out there is interested in “Life on the Ranch”. Maybe it’s time to put some effort into it again. With Fall starting, geosledding will generate even more hits to this page as it usually does every snowmobile season. I have a new high speed web connection, and a different FTP program that both look promising. This should make updates faster and easier.
The highlite of the Summer has been Reno. My friends Tom and Korry spent hours working with her and she has become quite a pleasure to ride. We always used a saddle, but Labor Day weekend marked the first bareback ride. It went really well. Reno has a very willing and cooperative personality.
Taught more motorcycle classes than ever this year, both at NWTC and Vandervest. Thankfully it was cooler and more overcast than usual, sparing us some of the worst heat (I’m more of a Fall person).
The buffalo had 7 calves last spring, and the meat business was the busiest ever. Sales are running double what they were in any previous year. There seems to be a big movement away from “grocery store” products. Maybe it’s all the food problems/scares we’ve had in the news. Hay is all piled for the Winter, and the buffalo are busy growing their heavy coats.
Our garden was the best ever this year, I dumped yards and yards of horse manure on it. The sweet corn got almost 10 feet tall. Mom and I started 3 berry patches…...raspberry, blueberry, and strawberry.
Put up a fence so Reno can come live with me, and Mom gave the round pen a fresh coat of paint. Working on building a shelter for Reno, then we’ll be pretty set for the snow season…..
