I promised myself at least one update per month when I decided to keep this up in September.

I guess I’d better hurry up before the next update has 2009 on it!  Early winter weather has kept

everyone busy and made everything just a little bit more difficult in December.  Though the wet heavy

snows make for some beautiful pictures.  The garden has long been asleep, but there’s activity

out there as the deer have discovered the carrots that got left behind.  All the snow cover has kept

the ground soft so they are digging away to clean up that last row.  As usual, the oak tree looks like it’s going to hold on to it’s leaves till spring.

The driveway is invisible most of the time as the constant snows keep it blended with the lawn.  You can see it right after I plow, but in a day or so, either the wind or another snowfall covers it up again.  The last pile of firewood, waiting to be split, also got covered with early snow.  I’m hoping over the Holidays mother nature will be kind enough to let me uncover it so Brian and I can do the last of the splitting.

I’m out twice a day to feed Reno, and the bird feeders, (and the buffalo feeders), keep emptying on a regular basis.  I’ve given up on clearing paths and found the simplest solution is just keeping a trail packed down with the snowmobiles.  If I pack it down when it’s wet/warm the first cold evening freezes it hard as a sidewalk.  Makes for easy walking and my boots don’t fill with snow.  I’ve even run out there in my sneakers when the conditions are right!

Winter doesn’t seem to bother Reno one bit.  Her coat is so thick, the snow won’t melt on her back!  Sometimes I think she actually enjoys the stormy days as that’s when I feed her in her shelter.  In she goes, warm and dry, contently eating her meal as the wind blows outside.  Yesterday morning was quiet, so she had her breakfast outside.  You can see how dark it was in the pic, and by afternoon a storm rolled in.  Here’s how the roads looked by evening.  This morning we’re in the middle of another one, Reno’s eating inside, and I’m waiting for it to end before I even start on the driveway.  It’s supposed to turn cold, but it may be a good afternoon for a snowmobile ride.

           Merry Christmas !
