Happy New Year! I welcomed 2009 a bit differently this year. About 1150 I got all bundled up, filled my pocket with horse treats and went outside to wait for the New Year with Reno.
Today was a beautiful winter day and I took advantage of it by catching up on some outside chores. First, Reno got her breakfast. Those midnite treats didn’t spoil her appetite one bit. Then I filled all the bird feeders, and put out a fresh suet cake for the woodpeckers.
Snow plowing has become a daily core. On the days it snows, there’s the driveway to clear, and on the days it doesn’t, I keep pushing the banks back. Many of the piles had become as high as the skidsteer could reach, so the recent rain/thaw was somewhat welcome. Our December was the snowiest on record, and it ranked second for the most snow in one month. In an effort to keep the banks from growing as quickly (they tend to catch even more snow when it blows), I plow out the fuel pumps about once a week, fill everything up, then leave them get covered up till something needs fuel again.
This afternoon the buffalo got their feeder refilled with hay. As usual, Chief was the first to the dinner table. If we quit breaking snowfall records, it appears that I’m on top of things, at least for now. Believe it or not, snowmobile trails are only in fair condition. The wind, rain, and thaw all took their toll, so I’m still looking forward to (hopefully) the best part of the snowmobile season.
Best wishes for the New Year!
