Despite the cooler/drier weather this summer, it’s still been rushing by. The weather man says we’re almost 3 inches behind on rainfall. That made it fairly easy to get some good hay in. Last month I had pics of us doing small bales for Reno, after that came the large round bales that the buffalo eat. As I loaded/hauled the last of it, this big buck calmly grazed along the edge of the field. Got it all stacked and ready for winter. Besides the deer, there’s been no shortage of turkeys hanging around the yard.
Built some hitching posts for Reno. Didn’t like anything I’d seen as both metal and wood have their shortcomings. A metal pipe is difficult to tie to, and with wood the joint between the uprights and crossbar is difficult to keep tight over time. Hopefully I solved these issues with my “hybrid” design. Here you can see the compound curve I had to cut where the “saddle” would be welded. The 6” pipe that would become the saddle for the wooden post is test-fit here. Welded them up, painted em, put one near Reno’s round pen and the other by the front porch for “company”.
The weather has been very kind for motorcycle classes (dry), though there really haven’t been many days where you didn’t find yourself “dressing for the weather” (cool). Since last post, Brian and I got the ATV’s up to Laona. Word is that work is being completed on a 3 mile stretch which will connect Wisconsin to all of the U.P. Also got out on the Bay for some salmon fishing in Jerry’s boat. Had a fair catch, and we’re going to try again in August.
Spent some time on ellisvillebison.com ironing out a few bugs, and updated some things I’ve been meaning to change for a while now. Check it out !
