Mike Louder, this one’s for you ! Had a chance for a short chat with Mike the other day and he mentioned that he enjoyed reading these. That was enough to spur me on to another update ( long overdue ).
Well, the rain is finally here. Last I heard, we broke an 18 year record for number of days without rain. Got pretty dry. That meant a lot of yard/field work got done, but I think it’s going to spoil our fall colors a bit, lots of leaves on the ground already. During the dry spell, Landon got the pastures dragged one last time before the ground freezes. Then he and Mom started in the garden. Apples, pears, and the last of the sweet corn went first. Afterward, they stacked the cornstalks in the bucket to haul away. Pumpkin patch got cleaned up too. Mom filled the wheelborrow several times with pumpkins. We used some of them to decorate the front porch. Visitors are asked to take some with to reduce our stockpile.
As always, doing horse stuff. Jodi hooked Tony to the buggy one evening, and let me pose for this picture before we went for a ride. Weekend before last Reno and I met Jodi and Dally in Lily for the trail ride there. The horses had a great time playing in the Wolf River. In between, Reno and I have been working on the trailer. She’s not real comfortable with it yet, so I “attached” it to her round pen. Here she is checking it out. In this pic I’m tempting her in with a treat, and in this one she’s checking that I didn’t accidently leave any treats behind !
Finished cleaning up where we buried Reno’s water line last Fall. Leveled off a spot for the picnic table, and put a “sitting stone” there as well. Now, on nice Fall days I like to take my dinner outside and eat with Reno.
