Where is the summer going? Since my last post we’ve got hay in for both the horses and Buffalo. Lucky thing too, it’s been so hot and dry that a second crop is becoming questionable. Sure feels good having all that hay in the barn! Our friend Cheryl, from Spirit Dance Ranch got a new truck the week we were hauling hay so it got a good “breaking in” Here’s a picture of Jodi and Cheryl beating me back to the ranch with a load of hay.
Despite the poor weather, Jodi’s flowers are doing quite well thanks to the garden hose. It’s a bright spot in our parched yards. It’s not easy to see on the “birdcam”, but my garden is doing quite well thanks to persistent watering by my mom when I travel. You might also notice that fresh cedar bark got spread around the trees and bird feeders. This was thanks to Jodi while I taught a weekend motorcycle class. Another thing that showed up one morning was this bunny looking for breakfast below the bird feeders. The coons have been quite invasive at night, helping themselves to the suet cakes. So far, they continue to outsmart the box trap you sometimes see on the webcam.
Been doing a little horseback riding, and I’ve finished up motorcycle classes for the season. All this heat takes the fun out of both those activities. Jodi and Alara did spend some time on the show circuit and brought a couple ribbons home. They tied for 1st in one class and took second in another. Fans are running in all the barns to help horses fight the heat and fly's. The most fun in these temperatures/humidity was probably the water balloon fight I had to miss at Cheryl’s last weekend.
I did manage to squeeze in a fishing trip with my long time friend Jerry, my brother, and nephew. The weather, company, and fishing were wonderful. Jerry took us out on Lake Michigan for a very productive day. We’re going out again on the 28th (weather permitting) so hopefully I’ll have more pictures for you.
We’ll, Jodi and I are off to Cheyenne this weekend for the rodeo, so I’ll have a full report on that next. We already have tickets for the bull riding event and a concert. The week after that, Cheryl is sponsoring the American Warmblood Society at Spirit Dance Ranch. And the following week I’m picking up a new breeding bull so that we have more baby buffalo next spring! Throw in a few more rides, a trip to the state fair, some travel for work, and August will be over. Almost time to start thinking about snowmobiles again! Don’t forget the “season opener” at “Hay Days” the weekend after Labor Day. Never a dull moment, I guess that’s why these letters are so far apart. I’ll try to work on that….
