Boy, is this overdue for an update. I had quite a bit of time off in August and all the projects kept me everywhere but in the house! There’s more and more overseas hits on the site so I suspect this may be some servicemen's “letter from home”. I’ll try to get something out a little more often from now on.
After our trip to Cheyenne I set about catching up on some of the outdoor ranch projects before the days get too short….and the weather gets too cold. One of my goals was to get all the running gear for the wagons and trailers up to par. We put new brakes in Jodi’s horse trailer, and I repacked the bearings in my gravity feeder and bunk wagon. Also bought some new tires here and there, along with repainting all the wheels while they were off. Only one more bunk feeder and I’m done. While we were in the “trailer” mode, my friend Doug even brought his over for a little welding.
Next came the gates. The main one along the driveway got bent last winter, so I welded up and painted this spare to replace it. The tallest gates available at Fleet Farm are 5 feet tall which is still a little short when buffalo are feeling “spirited”, so I add a foot to the bottom of each gate by welding on another tube.
I took the Bobcat over to Jodi’s to move some firewood into the yard. It seems that last years winter was quite hard on some pretty good sized trees. They’re still piled in the yard so cutting them to length and splitting them comes next. We also have 4 large bundles of slabs from the sawmill to cut up and stow away before the snow falls. While the skidsteer was there, Jodi had me dig out a jump for the horses. Here are Legit and Dally checking it out. Jodi and Brittany built a few more after I left, and here’s Jodi and Legit trying some of them out.
Went to “Hay Days” for the first time ever. My brother Brian, my friend Doug, and I decided to make a motorcycle trip out of it. What a beautiful weekend. It was hard to believe it was September. The round trip was about 750 miles. The first thing we saw after entering the gate were the grass drags. As we walked around talking to people about “geosledding” I noticed a variety of things for sale….for a variety of reasons. We also came across this cool 4wd bus that was being converted into a motor home. We got a hotel for Saturday night and went back Sunday till about noon. After handing out some more fliers, we caught some of the snowmobile and ATV freestyle show. Man those guys get high!
Well, that’s about all the news that’s fit to print. Gardening will be over soon as the potato tops are drying up, the pickles we didn’t get to are the size of small melons, and the pumpkins are turning orange. Time to start thinking about snowmobiles again! If you’ve got any winter events you want listed on “geosledding” drop an Email.
