Looks like winter is here, at least temporarily.  The buffalo are enjoying their winter coats as we've had some of the coldest temperatures of the season lately.  On the way back from town the other day, I saw this truck spreading whey.  It was so cold, he was creating a snowstorm as the high pressure liquid shot from the truck!  If we could only get him to follow the snowmobile trail…..

Got out for another beautiful mid-week ride.  Steve and his son AJ were up from Waukesha.  AJ just finished  snowmobile safety course and this was his first big ride.  Brian and I trailered as far as Suring.  The railroad grade looked to be in great shape, so we threw the sleds off there, and rode up to meet Steve and AJ in Lakewood.  The four of us had a nice ride over to Crooked Lake.  We came back thru Lakewood and stopped for this shot.  AJ sounded hungry, but Steve wanted to ride as far as Wabeno before lunch….said we were having too much fun to eat.  We took a round-a-bout way thru Townsend and found the trails in perfect condition.  We stopped a time or two, rode up thru Carter, and finally to Wabeno.

We ate lunch over the maps and decided that Crandon would be our goal for the day.  We headed North out of Wabeno and stopped to practice a little hill-climbing.  Turns out those Renegades can go almost straight up!  We came across some loggers and stopped to watch their powerful machines down trees, trim branches, cut to length, and stack logs without ever getting out of the cab.  They looked pretty comfortable in there, and we guessed about what music they might be listening to.  We wondered how many loggers it would have taken to accomplish the same tasks “in the old days”.

Next stop was Crandon for gas.  It was mid-afternoon by now so it was time to head South and home.  It would be dark soon and Brian and I were still 100 miles from the trailer.  We took a different route back, LMT 6 and 4 for those of you who know the area, and it got too dark for any pictures.  We stopped in Lakewood for supper and had pizza before saying our good-byes.  Steve and AJ were staying there till morning, and Brian and I still had 25 miles to the trailer.  AJ’s first ride was almost 130 miles, and Brian and I had about 180 by time we loaded in Suring.

Expect to get out again tomorrow/Wednesday.  Thinking about heading to the Iron Mountain area as they’ve had a bit more snow there lately.  I’ll try to get something out next week on that trip.

Keep riding safe!
