Still struggling to post more often. Anyone who lives on a farm knows that springtime is hectic! I’m down 7 lbs the past two weeks…...mostly from long days and skipped meals.
I think it’s safe to declare snowmobile season ended. They haven’t been run in weeks, all the snowsuits are washed, and the sleds are awaiting long-term storage prep in the corner of the garage. I got the motorcycles out last week, noticed Jodi has over 5000 miles on her Harley in just a few seasons. I didn’t realize she was riding that much. I’m hoping to bust 50,000 this year on my BMW. Weather permitting, Steve and I plan to meet for a ride tomorrow.
Spring is a good time to clean up the brush before everything leafs out. Jodi had been doing some “pruning” along her fences, so the girls and I picked up the trimmings. We filled the truck 4 times! It made quite a pile, which we burnt up last Saturday. Around my place I hooked the thatcher to the ATV and went at the lawn. I’ve got about an acre that I mow, and raking it all seemed overwhelming, so I took the mulcher blades off my tractor and blew all the loose lawn into windrows that Jodi helped me pick up the next day.
Next, I put the blade on the tractor and graded the driveway. I like how it looks in the spring after it’s been freshly graded. No weeds or potholes, nice straight edges. We also made one last trip for firewood to supply Jodi for next winter. We loaded almost 4 cords on my trailer! Now we need to get it cut up.
Hasn’t been all work though. We took in Lany’s track meet last Thursday where she took first in her heat for the hurdles. Here’s a pic of her waiting for the baton in the relay race. Oconto Falls took second overall…..lost by 1/2 point so it was pretty close.
Easter Sunday we planned for a laid back day so I spent the morning finishing up some details on the gates we hung at Jodi’s while she prepared Easter Dinner/Ham. Before we came in for Lunch, we “played” a bit with Dalsanto. He can really jump when he wants to. But can be very stubborn when he doesn’t. He’s getting pretty big/strong and I think he’s going to be a good horse. Jodi would like to do more driving with him. After pulling the sled all last winter, it will soon be time to try him on the cart.
Happy Easter!
