Got that first long spring motorcycle ride in. Rode down to Oshkosh to meet Steve and his friend Dennis. We met for early lunch and headed West. Mostly stuck to the county roads and just wandered along for the most part. Ended up near Appleton and went our separate ways from there. The weather was much nicer than the weatherman had promised, temps in the 70’s. We put on about 325 miles that day! Always feels good to get “last years” gas out of the tank and top off with fresh. Here’s Steve and Dennis at a rest stop along the way.
Been working at the usual Spring chores. Got the lawn fertilized and mowed for the first time, pruned the fruit trees (with a chainsaw) and put out feeders for the Orioles and Bluebirds. Waiting for Buffalo calves right now, they should start showing up over the course of the next month. I think the garden is going in early this year. Temperatures have been above normal, the ground is warming up, and things like the fruit blossoms and dandelions are ahead of schedule. Gonna try an irrigation system in the garden this year instead of the broadcast sprinkler I’ve always used. I’ll post more details/pics when I install it.
At Jodi’s, the new fencing project got back underway by hanging gates on the posts we had planted last Fall. We also put in all the line posts we had, so now we’re waiting on more materials to arrive before we can finish. When we’re done there will be another 5 acres of pasture for the horses. Probably going to need it too! We brought home a new stallion, Sam. If he sticks around, (Jodi’s still unsure about him), the extra pasture will come in handy. We’ve even talked about him living by me. With Jodi’s mares, it can become pretty exciting when Sam is kept in close proximity. I should have some pictures for you on the next post.
Boomer continues to recover from his mishap with Dalsanto. On occasion, I think he still has some soreness, but he’s back to his old tricks, chewing up everything in sight. This week it was the plastic cover from the septic vent pipe. Hope it’s only because he’s “teething”. Gonna keep it short this time, but the next few weeks look to provide quite a bit of material to write about….
Stay safe!
