I just went out and dumped 3 inches from the rain gauge. That was for the last 24 hours! The little bowls the Buffalo use to “dust” themselves have filled with water to form tiny ponds all over the pasture. As if the rain wasn’t enough, we had sustained wind speeds of 25-30mph, and gusts up to 60mph. Temps were down to 38 last night. A few more degrees and we would have been snowmobiling again! The power must have been out at least momentarily, as all the clocks were blinking this morning. Spent most of yesterday around the house. Kept the fireplace going to help out the furnace.
Our first Buffalo calf showed up on April 30th. It’s a little bull calf. He appears to be perfectly healthy, but I feel sorry for him with all the poor weather we’ve had lately. Number two came sometime last night, during the storm. I went out this morning to get a few pics of all the water, and there was a proud new momma! This was Should be a bunch more in the near future, so keep an eye on the Bison Cam.
Finally saw an Oriole yesterday. I was beginning to think they weren’t going to nest here this year. I put out a new feeder that holds oranges, jam, and raisins. Thought the coons might be getting it, but maybe it was the Orioles all along. Guess it’s time to get the Humming Bird feeders out as well. Got the biggest bunny around the yard this Spring. I snapped a pic thru the window, but it doesn’t do him justice.
Did some weld repairs for the lawn thatcher, and while I was at it I made these snowmobile stands for our new Rev’s. Took some 14ga tubing to the muffler shop, had them bend it, and welded up the pieces when I got home. I think they turned out nice. It’s a simple design, and plenty strong enough. Now they just need a quick coat of paint before they spend their summer under the Rev’s rear bumper.
Still got Sam the Stallion. He can be a handful. I need to get a pic of him to post. Jodi’s fencing project seems to go slower and slower due to waiting on materials and mud. I’m glad we did the augering for the big poles last Fall, we’d never get out there with the Bobcat after all this rain. Going to try and pound some line posts in tonight, between showers. That’s right, the weatherman predicts showers for the rest of the week. We’re going to have to mow lawn every time it stops raining!
Stay dry!
