Text Box: Over Memorial Day weekend Jodi and I drove my old Chevy truck home from California.
Well, we did take a few extra days besides the 3 day Holiday. We were a bit apprehensive as the
odometer is almost to 200,000, but “Wednesday” is in good shape and seemed worthy of the trip.

The first day we visited Yosemite on our drive East. People have told me it is possibly the
most beautiful of our National Parks, and I would have to agree. I guess this is the best time of year to visit as all the falls are running full force due to melting snow. On the way out of the park we spotted a mother bear waiting to cross the road with her two cubs. They were kind enough to pose for this picture.

The next morning we crossed the Sierras near Bakersfield. The pass at Yosemite was still closed due to snow, forcing this very Southern detour. Driving across Death Valley made me think of what it must have been like for the early settlers coming from the East. It was 102 in Stovepipe Wells….in May! We drove thru Vegas, crossed Hover Dam and stayed in Kingman, AZ the second evening.

The third day was reserved for the Grand Canyon. I’d been there once before, but Jodi had never seen it. We took a bus tour of the South Rim. It was kind of a blustery day so hiking/walking wasn’t too appealing. Next time I’d like to ride the burros.

Those three stops were the highlights. The rest of the trip was just using up highway to get home. The trip couldn’t have gone smoother, and the old Z71 made it back without a bit of trouble.

Around the farm, Jodi got a new trail mower. Here she is trying it on the pasture as the horses inspect her work. Mom and I planted the garden. And calf #7 arrived last Friday. The Bison aren’t the only ones having babies…...we spotted this deer with her fawn crossing a creek on our way to Marinette last evening.

Put the irrigation system in the garden this afternoon. I’ll take some pics and explain how it works in the next “Dispatch”
