Text Box: Springtime at the ranch….In just one week the lawn mower, oven, and clothes dryer
went to pieces. A weld repair got us mowing again. If you look closely, you can see the extra
webs I added to these brackets. They won’t break again….the next weakest link will….
The oven needed a new igniter and is working fine as of last night. However, the dryer we’re
still diagnosing.

While the welder was warmed up, I made Jodi’s Mom this hanger for her birdfeeders. I need to get a picture of it painted and set-up. It turned out pretty nice and I have a feeling I’ll be making more of them. Jodi really likes it, and the one you see on my “birdcam” could use a little updating as well.

I’m really pleased with the irrigation system in the garden. With all the dry weather it’s been getting a good test. I used this hose from Wal-Mart. It doesn’t spray but weeps the water thru it. I believe it’s made from old tires. I ran it straight near the water supply (where the pressure is the highest) and placed it in tighter and tighter weaves as I neared the end (where the pressure is lowest). This seems to provide fairly even watering over the entire run. It’s hooked to this timer which is currently programmed for 2 waterings/day of 1 hour each.

Oddly enough, Brian has trouble with too much water in his yard, so we dug in some drain tile. We used this trencher on the Bobcat for the most of it, but there is always work to be done by hand! We installed almost 700’ in about a day, now Brian needs to plant some lawn seed.

Last week was hay…..Steve came up from Milwaukee and both him and Brian lent a hand. Here they are trying to figure out how the new tie-downs work….and here they are with Jodi actually getting dirty/sweaty loading small bales. Here’s the last load (this week) of round bales heading out.

The kids and Mom came over to celebrate Father’s day. We had a cookout, Leigha rode the 4-wheeler, and they gave me this neat chicken planter for the porch.
