Text Box: Well, not all of the Fall projects have wrapped up yet, but I’ll post an update. Fuel tank
installation has progressed from dragging old oil tanks out of basements, to building/installing
steel skids, to final painting. The power cable is buried, and a post for pump power and a light
is up so all that remains is the final grading before hooking up power to the tanks/pumps.
It’s been a huge project to complete before the snow flies, but it looks like we’re gonna make it.

The worst of my two bunk feeders got a new bottom. It didn’t hold much feed anymore. We tipped the whole thing over, cut the bottom out, and welded all new steel in. It turned out really nice and looks great with a fresh coat of paint. This winter it will hold silage for the Buffalo to munch on.

In between construction projects we’ve been trying to get a little firewood done. Brian and my nephew Dave came over last weekend and we did manage to “skid” all the windfalls out of my woods after cutting them down to size. Now there’s a pile of logs at the end of the driveway that need to be cut and split. The porch needs to be piled with wood as well.

Now, for the animal update….Jodi’s been teaching Chief (our big Bull) to take grass from her hand thru the fence, he’s getting pretty trusting. It’s cool to see such a large undomesticated animal eat from your hand. The big news is last Saturday our “extended” family gained a new member when we brought Reno home. Reno is a 2 year old paint mare who will hopefully become my trail horse. Needless to say, at her age there will be many hours of hard work to make her a suitable mount. Outside of helping Jodi, I know nothing about training horses, so I’m sure it will be an education for both Reno and I. I wouldn’t tackle this without Jodi. Sunday Reno got her 4-way, dewormed, and a bit of trimming on her mane, all new experiences for her. Next comes the farrier. Sunday was beautiful and Jodi’s neighbors Julie and her daughter Katey rode over to check Reno out.

Hopefully, the next Dispatch will have some of these Fall jobs wrapped up before the weather makes it miserable working outside.
