Text Box: We’ve had more winter these past 4 weeks than we had all winter! I had the privilege of
being caught in the ice storm that swept across Pennsylvania February 14. I needed to get North
and all the mountain passes were closed due to ice, jack-knifed semi’s, and car accidents. I spent the
afternoon parked at a rest stop wondering what to do. I could see over 100 trucks parked along
the highway without even getting out of mine. Sure was nice being in the semi with my furnace
on. Truckers were watching TV, sleeping, and getting pizza delivered from the nearby town.
I felt sorry for the people stranded in cars who looked cold, crowded, and uncomfortable.

We had a nice ride from my house up into Door County on March 1st. My best friend Steve brought his neighbor Ken up from Milwaukee. He hadn’t been riding in quite a while, but looks like he’s enjoying it in this pic. There was a “blizzard” that day, so the kids were off school. That meant my niece and nephew (Sue and Dave) got to go too. The trails were probably the best they’ve been all winter. A shelter just South of Sturgeon Bay provided a bit of protection from the blizzard conditions while I snapped this shot. All the wind and snow didn’t seem to bother these ducks a bit. Later, we crossed the bridge into “Northern” Door County and promptly ran into these waist deep drifts. In some spots, the trail markers were barely sticking out of the snow! We had a blast and were all wet and tired from “busting drifts” by time we got home. We did about 120 miles that day.

All this weather has pretty much kept the horse training indoors. Last weekend we saddled Reno for the first time, and after a bit of lunging, Jodi climbed on her back for the first ride! I led them around a bit and it went pretty smooth, so I guess the next step is to try it with a bit/bridle. Jodi hooked Dalsanto to the cart and worked him a bit so he doesn’t get too “rusty” before Spring. He’s got a good head and manners for driving. Jodi did manage to get a ride in one afternoon and snapped this nice picture over “Dallys” ears while out in the pines behind her house.

Remember to turn your clocks this weekend…..it’s early this year.
